JO529-4351

JO529-4351 We thought it was a shining star Twelve billion years away Turns out it’s far more than that A scary thing called Quasar.  Its big and bright Lights up the night Brighter than our Sun  Five hundred trillion times.  That’s a lot you will agree Thank God it’s heading north We’ll never meet  Our danger lies within.  Impossible to say  If we’re alone, or on our own, It certainly seems so It looks that way.  The earth is in our hands But much more than that As far as we know To the furthest glow.  Do we make God nervous? Does he regret his work? Do we make him pause? Or we mad or bad because The music dies with us The stories and the books The laughter and the joy No Scripture in the sky.  There is no other plan We have no other planet Mars will not save us If we cannot save ourselves.  The gambler overplays  Throws the dice again Forgetting that our luck  One quiet day runs dry.  And so and so We mourn the so...

When love was new

When love was new When love was new We looked above their sins So excited all we saw was What our passions let us Puppy love excused it all We embraced the future  Not knowing of the turns That lay in front in years ahead.  Middle age arrived and so The faults appeared so clear But were always there, shielded By the curtain of infatuation.  But we learned to love Despite the failings and the fall The same person hadn’t changed Just more lines and grey.  Old age approaches And the fondness grows Not despite but because We have come to love those flaws.  Happy to accept Willing to embrace  The early lover In their full humanity.

Save the universe.

Save the universe We have to save the universe Not enough the save the earth  There is no life outside our world  That sins and saves, that sings and prays.  It is a challenge to persuade Our leaders to extend this story To curb our lust for gold and glory  To turn us back from climate hell That would end our life on earth Would quench the music in the galaxy Would silence laughter throughout space  That lifts and cheers    the human race.  We are wading in the valley In the shadows of despair We must raise our sights For hope to bring us there.  Without that hope we’re naught The courage to have fought  And lost and won and persevered When the hopeless disappeared.  Hope is our beacon and our light To hold our nerve and fight the fight To never tire for what is right To shield the candle through the night.  We are the people of the Light Strong of will and clear of sight We will keep the flame alive Make our hopes and d...

Saint Brigid’s Day

It’s St. Brigid’s Day It’s Saint Brigids day and the sun is shining  Through the clouds above the Bay Above the train that snakes its way From Killiney Beach to busy Bray.  The sound of wheels along the track The piping horn that brings us back The rides we had along the coast The springtime trips we loved the most.  Winter’s turned the corner and so have we The birds are chirping in the trees Their morning chorus above the city Hope has returned and fills the kitty.  We never seemed to want so bad A change in seasons and we’re glad To see the back of wind and rain The sky shines blue like southern Spain.  Hope rises in the chest of young and old We had lost hope if truth be told  Forgot the day is shortest right before The earth swings round and less is more.  All hail Saint Brigid and her present Of a public holiday when least expected  Fifteen centuries after she departed Concluding now what she had started.  All those crosses we ma...
